Prologue:

It all started in January of 2007. That's when my wife and I got our first aquarium -- a 54 gallon corner bowfront from All-Glass with black trim and all the fixings.

The first incarnation ended up looking like this:

We were quite happy with it for a long time. However, when I got the chance to upgrade the garden space to a 120G tank in the basement (beside the TV) I took it and the 54 became a cichlid grow out with no plants at all:

But, that just didn't seem right, so I wrapped the wood in moss:

After a while the cichlids grew up and started to fight in the cramped quarters and I ended up selling most of them. At this time I re-did the rock-quascape and created an all-male mixed cichlid tank. The fish provided the colour and it was very attractive and got compliments from our guests:

But two weeks ago I got the notion that I needed a new challenge. I real challenge. Not a "can I keep discus alive?" challenge (which is what I thought my 2010 challenge would be).

What to do? A salt water reef? No that's waaay too expensive and don't have much of the gear I'd need. However, the idea took a firm hold so I started to question the REALITY of my assumptions. That's when I met Rich...

Great for reef tanks, finicky fish eaters,, and fry......

Here's a description taken from their website.....

Cyclop-eeze is a unique form of zooplankton, one of the many types of copepods found throughout the earth’s waters. It is unique from other copepods in that the habitat Cyclop-eeze are “farmed” in, is unlike any other, producing a species which has superior nutrition compared to similar organisms. The icy cold arctic salt lake which these organisms have evolved in has provided Cyclop-eeze with exceptional levels of the important fatty acids (Omega 3) which are so benefical to aquatic life (especially Marine organisms). EPA 11.7% and DHA of 11.09% levels are amongst the highest found in a non-algae source. The brief growth and reproduction season of arctic life has allowed this organism to develop with multiple generational resting eggs, providing an uncommon intergenerational gene pool mixing.
Cyclop-eeze will feed on rich algae biomass accumulating intense levels of the pigment Astaxanthene proportionally to how much they ingest.(levels of between 3000ppm and 7000ppm are found) Astaxanthin is an excellent color enhancing pigment but also a valuable antioxident providing immune system support. Cyclop-eeze are harvested when nutrional value is highest and immediately deep frozen to preserve this natural highly enriched state. This provides a more nutritious feed product than many live collected planktonic organisms since these type of organisms quickly lose much nutrition if thay are not continuously feeding from harvest to end use.
I was interested in these guppies, (I think thats what they calling them), and wanted to get some until I seen there tankmates. They put them in with endler guppies. Now I wasn't sure if the females were guppies, endlers or they were a mixture of both. I was a little disappointed! Had to pass on a nice fish!!

A few moments ago I aquired a couple new angel fish that i am rescuing from a 10 gallon tank. My neighbours were told that they would be fine and would not grow too big.
I happen to have an empty 30 gallon tank so i figure i will make a nice planted tank home for them.

I figured i would start a journal here and try to keep it updated as i go. Its been about a year now since i have had a nice planted tank and kinda miss the feel/look of it.
It will be a medium to high light, soil covered with gravel, with DIY CO2 and PMDD ferts.
