Default What Water Source is Best for Bettas?

    Hi All,
I am new to the hobby and we have acquired 3 bettas. I have a question about water sources for the little guy's fish tanks. What water source is best for bettas? I have access to hard K/W water as well as softened water via a H2O softener. I have also recently installed an R/O for drinking water. All water sources seem to have the same PH ... 8.0 to 8.2. I have no hard water source in the house (have to use the outdoor taps for that). As winter approaches I would prefer to used the softened tap water ... with conditioner of course but I have read that that may not be the best choice.
    Thanks,
    Scott and Lynn Thompson

Hi guys, welcome to the forum, throw a hiya up into the newbie thread near the top and let everyone know you are here.

Water for bettas can be aged or dechlorinated tap water, most locally bought bettas will have been acclimated to KW's hard water. You can mix water for them with half RO/half tap if you want.

    Hi and welcome

With Bettas and other tropical fish, a high pH is okay if you are just keeping the fish. Breeding is another matter for later.
The important things to remember are to be consistent with the partial water changes and the water you use.
Maintaining the same temperature and the same pH are the important factors when doing partial water changes.
